Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure the family, it was looked after by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. While a small girl, Ford was battling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. She joined the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it was not the right location for her. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won an interview on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring for Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate was also a regular performer in theatre and eventually joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedies, that were added to her show in the year 1996.
